Marketing Advice from Kung Fu Panda Quotes
If you’re looking for some marketing advice or business tips for small business owners and entrepreneurs, look no further than Kung Fu Panda (believe it or not)
Last night, I took my 8-year old son to the theater to see Kung Fu Panda 3 and there were so many great quotes from the “kung fu world” that can be related directly to business and marketing. In this blog post, I have 4 marketing lessons that will be very helpful to small business owners and entrepreneurs who are looking for internet marketing advice.
Lesson 1: Before the Movie Even Started
Here we are getting ready to watch an animated movie and guess what types of movies ALL of the other trailers were for … other animated films. So what’s the lesson?
Target the right audience if you want to sell more of your product or service. And who is the best target audience for your business? It’s people who already have a history of purchasing products that are similar to what you sell. Hollywood knows that if we’re watching an animated film, we would probably buy tickets to see more animated films in the future.
This is 100% true and great marketing advice for your business as well. Target people who have a history of purchasing similar products and services to what you offer and selling will be 1000 times easier.
Lesson 2: “Before the battle of the fist, comes the battle of the mind.”
This Kung Fu Panda Quote comes from Master Shifu and it is so appropriate for as business advice for entrepreneurs. I often see aspiring small business owners focus ONLY on learning new skills. While skills are certainly important (and necessary), the truth is that the success of an entrepreneur comes from mastering the inner game first. (here’s another blog post on mindset and how to become an entrepreneur).
In order to create success, you have to believe that you can succeed (you’re capable of doing it). That you SHOULD succeed (it’s morally right for you to create success) and that it’s WORTH the work required (you know WHY you’re building your business in the first place and how you want your life to be different when you succeed). Without knowing these things and conquering the battle of the mind, you’ll quit before you ever find success in your business.
Lesson 3: “If you only do what you can do, you will never be more than you are now”
This is another great quote that Master Shifu says to Kung Fu Panda and boy is it ever great marketing advice too. I often hear students of mine tell me all the reasons why they CAN’T succeed and why they won’t try new things. Excuses such as, “I’m no good at technology”. “I’m not good at sales”. “This is too hard”. “I’m so overwhelmed!” Growth happens when you are outside of your comfort zone. So when it comes to business tips and marketing advice, if you ever want to be better than you are now, you have to step outside of that comfort zone and try new things.
Lesson 4: “I don’t have to turn you into me. I have to turn you into you!”
Whether you are the student trying to get better or you’re the teacher trying to build a team, there is a lot of wisdom that can be gained from this Kung Fu Panda quote. When my students ask me for marketing advice, they often want me to teach them the EXACT same skills that I chose to master for creating success in my business. Sometimes this is appropriate, but other times it is not.
We all have different skills and gifts. The goal of the teacher should be to find out what the student is good at. What do you enjoy doing? What would you wake up every morning excited to get out of bed to do. That is not necessarily the same for me and you. Therefore, your goal as the student should be to identify your gifts and talents and seek help from the teacher to turn you into the most skilled version of YOU that you can become.
